Welcome to the Chesapeake Public Library

The Library serves everyone in the Chesapeake community with an exciting array of books, movies, and music in many formats. In our new Strategic Plan, the Library has initiated a campaign to become an even more popular destination and “community living room."

Look for new browsing areas with color, lighting and signage. We are also introducing more comfortable seating, public computers, and other amenities. Current trends in technology are readily available such as Wi-Fi, new digital signage, self check, Playaways and MP3’s.

However, the traditional beloved hallmarks of the public library are still here in

abundance: great customer service, information resources, wide ranging and thought provoking book collections; and spaces for quiet study and contemplation.

Each of the seven libraries offers fun, cultural and educational programming for all ages, as well as formal and informal meeting spaces. Recent events ranged from an Evening

with Gregory Maguire (author of Wicked) to FANTASCI, a sci-fi extravaganza.

Gaming programs, story times, the annual Poetry Festival, movie theme nights and Friends of the Library book sales can be found regularly on the events calendar. New partnerships with groups such as Opportunity Inc., Tidewater Community College, and the Chesapeake Fine Arts Commission are bringing workforce development, higher education and expanded cultural opportunities deep into local neighborhood branches.

If you are looking for somewhere comfortable to sit with your laptop, meet a friend, grab a good read for your beach weekend, or a find a great movie for a family evening at home - check out your nearest library. We just might surprise you!
