If the book that you want is not available at the library you are visiting and it is owned by the Chesapeake Public Library, it can be reserved with a full service card. Holds can be placed via the Internet or you can complete a reserve card in the library. You will be notified when the book is available. Holds are available for self pickup in all area libraries.
If you want a book that is not owned by the Chesapeake Public Library, it may be possible to borrow it through interlibrary loan with a full service card. This is a network that enables libraries to obtain materials from other libraries on a loan basis. To use this service, please inquire at the information desk.
Most materials circulate for two weeks with the option for two renewals unless they are on reserve for another patron. Best sellers do not renew. Materials can be renewed over the telephone or through Internet access of a patron account. In order to ensure your privacy, you will need to provide your library card or some form of identification to checkout or renew materials and to inquire about overdue items or possible fines. Library materials may be returned to the most convenient Chesapeake library location.
You are responsible for the care and timely return of all library materials charged out on your card. Lost library cards should be reported promptly.
Overdue items accrue fines daily and are charged as follows:
• General Materials: $0.15/day - $10.00 max./item
• Interlibrary Loan Materials: $0.50/day – No maximum
Current replacement cost, plus a $5.00 processing fee, will be charged for any item not returned. Fines are assessed for damaged materials that are still usable. Additional charges may be involved with interlibrary loan materials.
