Job Help Services

Whether you’re starting a new career or seeking to advance, looking for a new job is difficult. The Chesapeake Public Library wants to help! We offer the following free services to the public that can help you on your hunt for the perfect job.

Resume Writing
It's all about getting your foot in the door for that interview.  Learn how to market your skills, knowledge, and experience with a resume that defines and highlights your accomplishments. Experienced library staff can help you craft a winning resume.  Contact your local library for an appointment.

Personalized Job Search Help
Want to find a new job but not sure where to start?  Trained library professionals can help you with your job search using online websites and job listings provided by Opp Inc., our Workforce Development partner.

Computer Access
Nothing is more important to the modern job seeker than access to a computer and the Internet. Your library card gives you access to any of our public computer stations for up to 4 2-hour sessions per day. Laptops are also available to be checked out with a photo ID and used in the library for up to 4 hours at a time. Use these computers to create a resume, search job listings, fill out applications, or take online classes to enhance your qualifications.

Classes and Programs
What do you need to know? CPL offers a range of programs designed to help you find employment, including classes to improve computer skills and individual assistance with your job hunt. Check out the events calendar to find a program that interests you, and don’t forget to register in advance if necessary.  Some classes can be viewed at most locations through video conferencing.

Free Faxing
No fax machine at home? Fax your resume, application, or other documents for free at any library location. This service is open to the public and includes both local and long-distance faxes.

If you need documents notarized, we offer free notary services at all library locations. Please call ahead to confirm a notary is on duty at your nearest library location.

Printed Materials
If you prefer the traditional approach, you can browse the classified section of the latest newspaper. And, of course, there are plenty of books available with tips and techniques for job seekers at every stage of the process.

Test Proctoring
Proctoring is available at all library locations.  Please call your nearest library for more details.
